Who else has miniature tornado's that tear through the house at a rate of speed you haven't moved in years? Have you considered throwing out every single damn Lego and duct taping the little's to the wall? Well, don't do that... that wouldn't be good... but just know I feel your pain. Today I stepped on the same toy three times. Not a nice soft stuffy either, some hideously pointy batman object. I got bat wings right in the ball of my foot. OUCH.
The true key to a consistently clean home, is daily up keep. For example, washing 5 dishes is much easier than washing two sink fulls. Doing one load of laundry is easier than doing laundry all day (which if you have 5 people in your family like I do, IS NOT FUN).
There are things that can be done once or twice a week even. You might not need to vacuum every day, or wash your floors. You don't need to get down on your hands and knees and scrub baseboards every morning at 5 AM.
Daily:
1. I wash the dishes everyday. Whether it be as they go into the sink (if I have time) or at night before I hit the hay. I'd rather wake up to a clean sink, rather than just something else to do while I'm rushing around to get the little's to school.
2. Throughout the day I pick up toys and toss them in their buckets. If I see something on the kitchen floor, I toss it in a box and then put it away later. I always try to keep their toys organized and labeled. That way I get less, "MOOOOOOOMMMMMMM'S" throughout the day because they can't find a silly little action figure.
3. I gather all the dirty clothes from the day and throw them in the laundry basket. Since there is 2 adults, a 3 year old, a 5 year old, and a newborn baby living here- we accumulate at minimum a load a day. I would rather wash and fold one load, than spend an entire Saturday and have mountains and laundry piling up all over my house. I don't know about you, but I don't like to fold mount laundry either.
4. Wipe down the counters and stove.
Just doing these 4 simple things every day, really help maintain the house.
Twice a week:
1. I vacuum my carpets twice a week. I have tiny humans walking around not following the food stays in the kitchen rule.
2. I sweep the kitchen and bathroom floors.
3. I wash the kitchen and bathroom floors.
4. I tidy and clear out my older kid's room.
5. Wipe down the bathroom counters and mirrors.
Once a week:
1. I clean the toilet (Let's be honest here, I wipe down the toilet many, many, many times a day. But I scrub the inside once a week).
Once a month:
1. This is weird, but I vacuum the ceilings. A lot of dust and spider webs accumulate up there.
2. Deep organization of the kids toys and clothes.
What do I use to clean?
Honest Company! Love the smell. Love the quality.
If you're anything like me, You need to keep track of what you've done/are doing/need to do. I sometimes don't know my head from my ass, so a checklist is helpful.
Here's one I made for myself--
