I consider myself a seasoned mother. I've had two babies of my own and a bonus son, and taught PK for about 6 years.
With my first son I packed the diaper bag like we were going away for a week. A whole pack of diapers, couple packs of wipes, multiple changes of clothes, toys, Tylenol, cream, bottles, formula, breast pads, lotions, baby wash... Get the picture? I didn't carry a regular diaper bag either... Momma carried a whole backpack. I was prepared for any emergency. I carried that bag just like that until my son was two.
Baby #2 came along and I was a bit more sensible. At this point in the game the bag doesn't leave the car unless there is a poop explosion.
Currently in my diaper bag (which is actually just a tote bag, yeah you don't need the $60 bag with all the crazy pockets... I promise sweetheart.. you don't) I have:
-Some diapers
-Wipes
-1 change of clothes
-Diaper rash cream
-Changing pad
That's it! Can you imagine? Can you even believe I am able to leave the house with an infant, a 3 year old, and a 5 year old without packing the entire house? It's been 9 months packing a minimal bag and the world has not ended, there have been no poop volcanoes I couldn't handle, and most of all my arms and back aren't weighed down by a 25 pound bag.
And to make it even better, here are my cheap (cheap!) Amazon finds that keep my bag stocked.
These diapers are the absolute SH!T! They are crazy cheap and hold up to my son's business!
Amazon Elements wipes. Again, cheap.. cheap..cheap!
A+D ointment speaks for itself. It's great for in between changes and good for diaper rashes.
